The reading order is the coded order of slide elements. The reading order determines the sequence titles, text, and other media are read aloud by assistive technology. Using properly built slide layouts creates clean, organized slides and helps ensure proper reading order.\r\n

Who reading order affects<\/h2>\r\nLearners with dyslexia<\/strong>, ADHD<\/strong>, or visual disabilities<\/strong> may rely on assistive technology to consume PowerPoint content. When the coded order does not match the visual sequence of slide content, the slide will not be read in the correct sequence by assistive technology. <\/a>How to fix it<\/h2>\r\n\"\"PowerPoint's Check Accessibility tool automatically checks for reading order issues. In the Accessibility panel, Check reading order<\/strong> will appear under\u00a0Document Structure.<\/strong>\r\n
<\/div>\r\n\"\"To amend reading order, select Check reading order<\/strong> to reveal the slide(s) with inaccessible reading order and a shortcut to the Reading Order Pane via the\u00a0Check Object Order<\/strong> button. How to prevent it next time<\/h2>\r\nUse placeholders<\/a> (on the Home<\/strong> tab select New Slide Button <\/strong>and choose desired layout or change an existing slide by selecting Layout<\/strong> on the Home <\/strong>tab) and work in order:\r\n

  1. Enter a title in the title placeholder.<\/li>\r\n \t
  2. Add content to first placeholder.<\/li>\r\n \t
  3. Add content to second placeholder, etc.<\/li>\r\n \t
  4. Use built-in tools to add slide numbers or footers<\/a>, not manual text boxes.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nAvoid manually inserting textboxes.
