ZoomText enlarges and enhances your computer screen, echoes your typing and essential program activity, and automatically reads content. While not as interactive as JAWS or NVDA, ZoomText can read the entire context of the screen and has numerous options for reading text and documents aloud.\r\n\r\nPress <strong>Alt r <\/strong>to move to Reader tab of ZoomText toolbar to view various settings such as keyboard and mouse echo (audio feedback of words read or highlighted content) as well as different reader modes.\r\n\r\nDeactivate, change, and add new voices in the <strong>Voice<\/strong> menu.\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-232\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.bccampus.ca\/atuserguides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2237\/2024\/06\/ZoomTextVoiceMenu-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"247\" \/>\r\n\r\nAdjust voice speed by changing the number above <strong>Rate.<\/strong>\r\n<h4>AppReader<\/h4>\r\n<strong>Caps Alt r <\/strong>launches AppReader in mode selected on toolbar.\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-233\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.bccampus.ca\/atuserguides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2237\/2024\/06\/Picture12-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"280\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Caps Alt a<\/strong> launches App view. App view reads text in the document or webpage open with a ringed highlight of what is being read.\r\n\r\nPress\u00a0<strong>Caps Alt Left click\u00a0<\/strong>to begin reading from mouse pointer.\r\n\r\nPress\u00a0<strong>Control<\/strong> to pause reading and\u00a0<strong>Enter<\/strong> to resume.\r\n\r\n<strong>Left<\/strong> arrow moves to previous sentence and\u00a0<strong>Right<\/strong> arrow moves to end of current sentence.\r\n\r\nPress <strong>Escape<\/strong> to stop AppReader.\r\n\r\nWhen reading, press\u00a0<strong>Tab<\/strong> to switch to Text View. Text View opens the content being read in new window with customized contrast. Press\u00a0<strong>Control Alt t<\/strong> to open Text View.\r\n\r\nSpeakIt allows users to click on a word, image, icon, or other element and have ZoomText read the content. On the Reader tab, click <strong>AppReader<\/strong>, and select <strong>Use SpeakIt Tool<\/strong> or press\u00a0<strong>Caps Lock Alt s.\r\n<\/strong><img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-234\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.bccampus.ca\/atuserguides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2237\/2024\/06\/Picture14-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"268\" \/>\r\n\r\nSpeakIt also allows users to highlight text to be read. When SpeakIt is active, click and drag over text to have it read aloud. Press\u00a0<strong>Escape<\/strong> before selecting new text to be read. Note: SpeakIt does not visually indicate what is being read word by word like App View and Text View do.\r\n\r\nBackground Reader allows users to highlight text and hear it read aloud in the background while completing other tasks. To use Background Reader:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Highlight text<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Press\u00a0<strong>Caps Lock Control b<\/strong> or navigate to the\u00a0<strong>Tools <\/strong>tab and select\u00a0<strong>Background Reader.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<h3>Tools<\/h3>\r\nNavigate to the\u00a0<strong>Tools<\/strong> tab or press\u00a0<strong>Alt t.\r\n<\/strong><img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-235\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.bccampus.ca\/atuserguides\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2237\/2024\/06\/ZoomTextToolsMenu.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"193\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Finder <\/strong>allows user to find, search, and list results. Activate with <strong>Caps Control f.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<strong>Camera<\/strong> allows users to hold up a document to your webcam to have it zoomed on screen. Activate by pressing <strong>Caps control c<\/strong>. Accompanying toolbar has zoom and colour options.\r\n\r\n<strong>Background Reader<\/strong> allows users to highlight text and hear it read aloud in the background while completing other tasks. To use Background Reader:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Highlight text<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Press\u00a0<strong>Caps Lock Control b<\/strong> or navigate to the\u00a0<strong>Tools <\/strong>tab and select\u00a0<strong>Background Reader.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<strong>Recorder<\/strong> can create audio files of text you have copied to windows clipboard. You can listen to the audio later or on a different device.\r\n\r\n<strong>Voice Assistant<\/strong> allows users to give ZoomText command using their voice. Press <strong>Caps Alt Spacebar<\/strong> or click microphone icon in top right of ZoomText toolbar. On the <strong>Tools<\/strong> tab, select <strong>Voice Assistant <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Getting Started<\/strong> to set up Voice Assistant.\r\n\r\nBy default, ZoomText will read back what is typed. To enable:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Navigate to <strong>System Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Accessibility<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Zoom<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Toggle <strong>Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom<\/strong> on.\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Keyboard shortcuts:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li><strong style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">Command Option 8<\/strong><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\"> toggles zoom on\/off<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">Command Option =<\/strong><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\"> zooms in<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">Command Option - <\/strong><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">zooms out<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Or, toggle <strong style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">Use trackpad gesture to zoom<\/strong><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\"> on and use the listed instructions to zoom.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nIn the same menu users can change the zoom style from <strong>Picture-in-picture<\/strong> which displays a small zoomed box that follows the cursor, <strong>Full screen<\/strong> zooms the entire screen, and <strong>Split screen<\/strong> which anchors a window at the top of the screen that zooms where the cursor is.\r\n\r\nThe <strong>Advanced\u2026<\/strong> menu has more options and tweaks available.\r\n\r\nUsers can select <strong>Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom<\/strong> checkbox to use the trackpad or scroll wheel to zoom. The default modifier key is <strong>Control<\/strong>.\r\n\r\nFinally, toggle <strong>Hover Text<\/strong> on and users can hold <strong>Command<\/strong> and macOS will zoom text under the cursor. <strong>Options\u2026<\/strong> allows users to change modifier key and zoom level\/text size.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-ca\/guide\/mac-help\/mchl779716b8\/15.0\/mac\/15.0\">How to zoom in or out on Mac<\/a>.\r\n\r\nSome users may wish to increase the zoom of the entire macOS display.
