This will create five piles of 12 different words.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Put each pile into an envelope.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Break the class into five groups.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ask them to take the words out of the envelope then sort them from most to least casual.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Do not give them any further instructions. You can decide whether students are allowed to use their phones to look up words they don\u2019t know.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>When each group has agreed on the order of the words, get one student from each group to write the order of their words on the board.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ask students to identify trends: what words groups agreed on and what words have wildly different orders.
