Questions for reflection

To help you connect to the concepts you’ll learn in this chapter, take some time to reflect on the following questions.

Your writing process:

  • What is your ideal writing process? Do you currently use your ideal writing process?
  • How do you normally complete an assignment? Do you feel that this method is successful?
  • If you write in more than one language, do you use the same writing process for each language? How are your writing processes the same and different?

Determining your context, audience, and purpose:

  • Think about a time when a miscommunication occurred in your life. Why do you think it happened?
  • Think about a time when you had to write to a new person (audience) or in a new situation (context). For example, perhaps you had to write an email to an instructor when you were new to college. How did you approach the task? Is there anything you wish you did differently?
