Well, what does it look like on a personal level? As mentioned earlier, decolonization of ourselves is the first step to decolonizing the classroom. There are two parts to this:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Recognizing our colonial tendencies.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Changing our behavior.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<h2>Recognizing our Colonial Tendencies<\/h2>\r\nListed below are a few items to consider when you catch yourself making an assumption (Equity &amp; Inclusion Office, n.d.):\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Disrupt traditional thinking of \u201cus\/them\u201d, \u201cWhite\/other\u201d, binaries.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Be aware of how we hear and interpret each other\u2019s narratives.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Stay mindful of whose voices continue to be privileged.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Remain cognizant of how to make connections between the global and the local.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Recognize when our mind jumps to a stereotype regarding Indigenous peoples or decolonization and remind ourselves of the truth.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>Changing Our Behavior<\/h2>\r\nOnce we catch ourselves making these assumptions and correct ourselves, we can begin to translate this into our actions.
