To illustrate this, BCcampus created <span class=\"s1\">an <\/span>i<a href=\"https:\/\/bccampus.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Using-OER-to-reopen.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nfographic showing the advantages of OER<\/a> <span class=\"s1\">and published the article <\/span>OER: <a href=\"https:\/\/bccampus.ca\/2020\/05\/14\/oer-trial-by-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trial by COVID-19<\/a><span class=\"s1\">.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p2\">Regardless of the current situation, textbook costs for first-year engineering students can amount to hundreds of dollars per student\/year. The CFEYC includes courses from a variety of STEM disciplines that have already demonstrated high numbers of <span class=\"s2\">OER adoptions in B.C. <\/span>(e.g., physics, chemistry, and math).<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p2\">As a number of engineering programs across B.C. are presently undergoing curriculum redesign as part of the CFYEC project, now is the perfect time to consider shifting to OER so that further reworking of the curriculum is not necessary down the road.<\/p>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">Excerpt from Blog Post: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bccampus.ca\/2020\/05\/26\/exploring-an-open-path-for-first-year-engineering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exploring an Open Path for First-Year Engineering<\/a><\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3>Benefits for Engineering Faculty<\/h3>\r\nOER are <strong>editable, customizable<\/strong> and can be aligned with the curriculum.
