Funding Opportunities for Trades Workers
27 Non-Profit Organizations Assistance
Anne Lee
To assist in covering the gap for further items to support recruiting trades workers into the field, there are many non-profit organizations that have programs to specifically assist. Usually these are provincially government supported organizations and the criteria to be part of the programs include that one is currently unemployed/unemployed and not in full-time education. Therefore, pre-apprentices that want to enter a specific trade program or individuals who just completed a Foundations program and seeking the resources to get the first apprenticeship job are highly likely to qualify.
The government supported organizations can assist the trade apprentice with the following:
- Required tools needed for employer
- CSA approved work boots, additional safety equipment
- Resume and interview support
- Counseling
- Funding for expenses to obtain employment (eg. transportation costs to interview)
- Assistance with living expenses (eg. groceries, fuel, mileage reimbursement)
- Short-term certifications and trainings (eg. Occupational First Aid, Fork lift certification)
