Funding Opportunities for Trades Workers

24 Types of Funding Opportunities

Anne Lee

Funds to a trade apprentice are normally provided in the form of grants, bursaries, and scholarships.  These types of funding are similar and essentially in principal the same thing, in that one is usually awarded cash or provided a benefit (eg. textbooks/tools) and the subsidy does not have to be paid back.

Scholarships and bursaries usually refer to amounts paid or benefits provided to students to enable an individual to further their education, while grants are usually provided from government or charitable organizations to support a specific group.  Grants and bursaries can also be awarded based on financial need.

The terms grants, bursaries, and scholarships are usually used interchangeably.  What is more important is determining the criteria if you as a trade apprentice qualify for the funding opportunity, how to apply, and the net support amount available.
