The last letter for each of these words is normally silent (<strong>-n, - s<\/strong>), but with verbs that start with a vowel, they must be pronounced. This is called making <strong>liaisons<\/strong>. You will study and practice this below.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-107976\">All regular <strong>-er<\/strong> verbs are conjugated in the same way. They both mean that French is a language you know how to speak (more or less). A third way is used to talk about the language you speak in a specific context or social situation.<\/li>\r\n \t<li class=\"lt-human-107976\"><strong>Je parle en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong>. For example: <strong>A la maison, je parle en fran\u00e7ais, mais au boulot, je parle en anglais<\/strong> (At home I speak in French, but at work I speak in English).<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-107976\">The present tense indicates an action that is either actually occurring at the time of speaking, or that happens in general. The French present may be translated in three different ways in English depending on the intended meaning. For example:<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-107976\">Craig parle fran\u00e7ais. =<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"mt-indent-1\">\r\n \t<li class=\"lt-human-107976\">Craig is speaking French. (right now, progressive action)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-3 lt-human-107976\">or<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"mt-indent-1\">\r\n \t<li class=\"lt-human-107976\">Craig speaks French. The last letter for each of these words is normally silent (<strong>-n, &#8211; s<\/strong>), but with verbs that start with a vowel, they must be pronounced. This is called making <strong>liaisons<\/strong>.
