<strong>sortent<\/strong> pas le week-end. (My parents don't go out on weekends.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Il <strong>sort<\/strong> souvent avec sa petite amie. (He often goes out with this girlfriend.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">Use the preposition <strong>de<\/strong> after <strong>sortir<\/strong> when you mention that someone is leaving a place.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Le \u00e9tudiants <strong>sortent<\/strong> <strong>de<\/strong> la salle de classe. (The students leave the classroom.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Nous <strong>sortons<\/strong> <strong>du<\/strong> cin\u00e9ma. (We leave the movie theater.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">(b) <strong>Partir<\/strong> means to leave from somewhere - usually a large place like a city, country, or region. It is often accompanied by the preposition <strong>pour<\/strong> when you mention the destination (where someone is for):<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Je <strong>pars<\/strong> demain matin. (I am leaving tomorrow morning.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Andr\u00e9a <strong>part pour<\/strong> la Belgique \u00e0 8h. (Andr\u00e9a leaves for Belgium at 8 o'clock.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Quand est-ce que tu <strong>pars pour<\/strong> la Bretagne ? (When do you leave for Brittany?)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">There is also a variety of expressions based on <strong>partir + en<\/strong>. For example:<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Je <strong>pars en<\/strong> vacances. (I am going on vacation.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Je <strong>pars en<\/strong> voyage. (I am going on a trip.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">(c) <strong>Sentir<\/strong> can mean \"to feel\", \"to smell \" or \"to sense\". So always pay attention to the context!<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">\u00c7a <strong>sent<\/strong> bon ! (That smells good!)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Elle <strong>sent<\/strong> ma pr\u00e9sence. (She feels my presence.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Nous <strong>sentons<\/strong> le caf\u00e9. (We smell the coffee.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Je <strong>sens<\/strong> une necessit\u00e9 imp\u00e9rieuse de faire quelque chose. (I feel a compelling need to do something.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">(d) <strong>Servir, server \u00e0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\"><strong>Servir<\/strong> can mean to serve, \"to bring a meal to someone.\"<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\"><strong>Je vous sers \u00e0 manger ? <\/strong>(Can I bring you something to eat?)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">When <strong>servir<\/strong> is followed by the preposition <strong>\u00e0<\/strong> and a verb in the infinitive form, it means \"to be used for.\"<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Une raquette <strong>sert \u00e0 jouer<\/strong> au tennis. (A racket is for playing tennis.)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\"><audio controls=\"controls\"><\/audio><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Elles dorment jusqu\u2019\u00e0 midi.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Vous courez vite !<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Nous servons le dessert.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Je sers du vin \u00e0 la soir\u00e9e.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-114823\">(e) <strong>Offrir<\/strong>. (He often goes out with this girlfriend.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">Use the preposition <strong>de<\/strong> after <strong>sortir<\/strong> when you mention that someone is leaving a place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Le \u00e9tudiants <strong>sortent<\/strong> <strong>de<\/strong> la salle de classe. (The students leave the classroom.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Nous <strong>sortons<\/strong> <strong>du<\/strong> cin\u00e9ma. (We leave the movie theater.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">(b) <strong>Partir<\/strong> means to leave from somewhere &#8211; usually a large place like a city, country, or region. It is often accompanied by the preposition <strong>pour<\/strong> when you mention the destination (where someone is for):<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Je <strong>pars<\/strong> demain matin. (I am leaving tomorrow morning.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Andr\u00e9a <strong>part pour<\/strong> la Belgique \u00e0 8h. (Andr\u00e9a leaves for Belgium at 8 o&#8217;clock.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Quand est-ce que tu <strong>pars pour<\/strong> la Bretagne ? (When do you leave for Brittany?)<\/p>\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">There is also a variety of expressions based on <strong>partir + en<\/strong>. For example:<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Je <strong>pars en<\/strong> vacances. (I am going on vacation.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Je <strong>pars en<\/strong> voyage. (I am going on a trip.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">(c) <strong>Sentir<\/strong> can mean &#8220;to feel&#8221;, &#8220;to smell &#8221; or &#8220;to sense&#8221;. So always pay attention to the context!<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">\u00c7a <strong>sent<\/strong> bon ! (That smells good!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Elle <strong>sent<\/strong> ma pr\u00e9sence. (She feels my presence.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Nous <strong>sentons<\/strong> le caf\u00e9. (We smell the coffee.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Je <strong>sens<\/strong> une necessit\u00e9 imp\u00e9rieuse de faire quelque chose. (I feel a compelling need to do something.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">(d) <strong>Servir, server \u00e0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\"><strong>Servir<\/strong> can mean to serve, &#8220;to bring a meal to someone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\"><strong>Je vous sers \u00e0 manger ? <\/strong>(Can I bring you something to eat?)<\/p>\n<p class=\"lt-human-114826\">When <strong>servir<\/strong> is followed by the preposition <strong>\u00e0<\/strong> and a verb in the infinitive form, it means &#8220;to be used for.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-114826\">Une raquette <strong>sert \u00e0 jouer<\/strong> au tennis.
