That\u2019s because there are 4 different types of nasal vowels in French. This means that for some words, the sound makes the nose vibrate. Try closing your mouth and making a sound with your nose. French nasal sounds sound almost like that.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-118948\">In French, there are 4 nasal sounds. The people of the south clearly distinguish between these 4 sounds, but the people of the northern France can only hear 3 nasal vowels. Here they are.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-118948\"><audio controls=\"controls\"><\/audio><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-118948\">(i) The first one is the [\u0254\u0303] sound, or nasal <strong>o<\/strong>. Your mouth should be round when pronouncing these vowels. There are two ways to write these vowels: <strong>on<\/strong> and <strong>om<\/strong>. But remember that if <strong>on<\/strong> or <strong>om<\/strong> is followed by another vowel, the sound is no longer nasal.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-118948\">pompier \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0d\u00e9contract\u00e9 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0tomber \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0contr\u00f4le<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"lt-human-118948\">(ii) The next one is the [\u025b\u0303] sound, or nasal <strong>i<\/strong>. Your mouth should open for this sound, as if you were about to smile.
