Here are two examples in French:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120689\">Chaque fois que <strong>j'allais<\/strong> au march\u00e9 de Saint Aubin, <strong>j'achetais<\/strong> des kiwis et du fromage. (Each time I went to the Saint Aubin market, I would buy kiwis and cheese.)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120689\">Qu'est-ce que tu <strong>faisais<\/strong> en \u00e9t\u00e9 quand tu <strong>\u00e9tais<\/strong> petite ? (What did you used to do in the summer when you were little?)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"lt-human-120689\">To conjugate verbs in the imperfect, you need to remember two things:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n    <li class=\"lt-human-120689\">With the exception of <strong>\u00eatre<\/strong>, the stem of a verb is always the same as the <strong>nous<\/strong> form of the present tense. Even all verbs with irregular present-tense forms follow the regular pattern for the imperfect.<\/li>\n    <li class=\"lt-human-120689\">The endings are the same for all imperfect verbs!&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"lt-human-120689\">Here are some examples of how to conjugate verbs in the <strong>imparfait<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1\">\n<audio with no definite beginning or end, like actions that are part of a setting or background (weather, time, and place). These include: <strong>avoir<\/strong> expressions (e.g., <strong>avoir sommeil<\/strong>, <strong>faim<\/strong>, <strong>froid<\/strong>, <strong>envie<\/strong>.), expressions with <strong>\u00eatre<\/strong> that describe how you are (e.g., <strong>\u00eatre<\/strong> <strong>fatigu\u00e9<\/strong>, <strong>content<\/strong>, <strong>curieux<\/strong>, <strong>stress\u00e9<\/strong>), and verbs that describe ongoing states like <strong>aimer<\/strong>, <strong>savoir<\/strong>, <strong>devoir<\/strong>, <strong>vouloir<\/strong>, <strong>pouvoir<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120689\">\u00ab Il faisait chaud. J\u2019avais tr\u00e8s soif et j\u2019\u00e9tais fatigu\u00e9. Temporal markers help provide context for using the imperfect tense to decribe habitual actions. Two common ones are <strong>chaque<\/strong>\u2026 (each\u2026, every\u2026) and <strong>tous les\u2026 , toutes les\u2026<\/strong> (every\u2026.). We can use these to introduce habitual actions in both the present and the past.
