(We arrived in France two weeks ago.)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120678\">Elle a visit\u00e9 Abidjan <strong>il y a<\/strong> quatre ans. To say that something happened for a particular period of time and ended in the past, use: <strong>pendant<\/strong> + [time period]:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120678\">Val\u00e9rie et Michelle ont jou\u00e9 au foot <strong>pendant<\/strong> 3 heures. (Val\u00e9rie and Michelle played soccer for 3 hours.)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120678\">Patrick et moi, nous avons \u00e9tudi\u00e9 \u00e0 Siena <strong>pendant<\/strong> deux semaines. (Patrick and I, we studied in Siena for two weeks.)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"lt-human-120678\">It can also be used to talk about the present:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120678\">Je fais du jogging tous les matins <strong>pendant<\/strong> 30 minutes. (I jog every morning for 30 minutes.)<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"box-note\">\n<div class=\"mt-section\"><span id=\"Note_2\"><\/span><h4 class=\"box-legend lt-human-120678 editable\"><span class=\"lt-icon-default\">Note<\/span><\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"lt-human-120678\">You have learned how to use <strong>venir de<\/strong>, <strong>depuis<\/strong>, <strong>pendant<\/strong>, and <strong>il y a<\/strong> to talk about the past in different ways. There are many more ways to do this. For example:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"lt-human-120678\"><strong>Pour<\/strong> (for) is used to project how long a specific action or situation will last in the future. You can conjugate the verb in the present if you\u2019re speaking about schedules, timetables. <strong>Pour<\/strong> is similar, and sometimes interchangeable with<strong> pendant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120678\">Je reste <strong>en<\/strong> Angleterre pour 5 jours. (I am staying in England for 5 days.)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"lt-human-120678\"><strong>Dans<\/strong> indicates the start of a specific action or situation which will take place in the future.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120678\">Je vais au Canada <strong>dans<\/strong> 3 jours. (I am going to Canada in 3 days.)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"lt-human-120678\"><strong>En <\/strong>can be used to indicate the amount of time it takes to complete an action.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120678\">J\u2019ai fait mes devoirs <strong>en<\/strong> 1 heure. (I did my homework in 1 hour.)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"lt-human-120678\"><strong>\u00c0<\/strong> is used to express the clock time at which an event occurs.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120678\">J\u2019ai rendez-vous <strong>\u00e0<\/strong> 10h. (I have an appointment at 10 o\u2019clock.)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"lt-human-120678\"><strong>\u00c7a fait <\/strong>is a way of saying It\u2019s been\u2026.(\u2248 since)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"mt-indent-1 lt-human-120678\"><strong>\u00c7a fait<\/strong> longtemps que je n\u2019ai pas vu un bon film.
