Overview<\/h1>\r\nFor Labs 1 and 2, you identify the 22 mineral samples in your lab kit based on observations of their physical properties. The samples include the following minerals:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Clues<\/h1>\r\n

  1. All but one of the samples have excellent cleavage in one or more directions.<\/li>\r\n \t
  2. The sample without cleavage is a good example of crystal form.<\/li>\r\n \t
  3. Two of the samples have a metallic or submetallic lustre.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n
    REMEMBER:<\/strong> Types of non-metallic lustre include adamantine, vitreous or glassy, silky, pearly, waxy, and dull or earthy. Hardness will almost always need to be written as a range of possible values.<\/div>\r\n

    What to Do Next<\/h1>\r\nUse the Lab 1 worksheet (Figure 1.20) to record your observations and guide you through the identification process for each mineral in the Lab 1 set.
