Lab 5 Activity

Overview

For Lab 5 you will identify the 8 sedimentary rock samples based on observations of their texture and composition. The samples include the following sedimentary rocks:

Sedimentary Rock Sample List
Bituminous coal Conglomerate Oolitic limestone Sandstone (quartz)
Chert Coquina Sandstone (arkose) Siltstone

Samples to Use for Lab 5

Collect the following rock samples:

SS-51 SS-53 SS-62 SS-66
SS-52 SS-55 390RSe SS-61

What to Do Next

Use the Lab 5 worksheet (Figure 4.3) to record your observations and guide you through the identification process for each sedimentary rock.

Refer to Figure 4.4 to help you match your observations with a name. Note that Figure 4.4 includes rocks that are not examined.
