Lab 6 Activity

Overview

For Lab 6 you will identify the 8 metamorphic rock samples based on observations of their texture and composition. The samples include the following metamorphic rocks:

Metamorphic Rock Sample List
Anthracite Gneiss Marble Quartzite
Garnet schist Hornfels Phyllite Slate

Samples to Use for Lab 6

Collect the following rock samples:

SM-71 SM-73 SM-84 SM-82
SM-72 SM-75 SM-85 SM-81

What to Do Next

Use the Lab 6 worksheet (Figure 5.13) to record your observations and guide you through the identification process for each metamorphic rock.

Refer to Figure 5.14 to help you match your observations with a name. Note that Figure 5.14 includes rocks that are not in your set.
