class=\"c3\">1920<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c5\">Women's rights were focused around the Veil<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c0\">Education became more accessible<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\"><strong><span class=\"c7\">1930<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c19\">The veil was banned in 1936 Many women did not leave the house due to fear of being attacked by extremists<\/span><\/p>\r\n<strong>1940<\/strong>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c15\">The ban against head coverings was removed, therefore becoming optional. \u2022 The Iranian Women's Party was founded \u2022 The first women's sufferage bill was brought forward though was denied by the government.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\"><strong><span class=\"c7\">1950<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c20\">Women gained the right to vote on a municipal level in 1952<\/span><\/p>\r\n<strong>1963<\/strong>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c6\">Women got the right to vote\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c6\">The right to run for parliament<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">The right to have\/obtain a divorce and keep custody of their children.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\"><strong><span class=\"c3\">1970<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c27\">Women had 22 seats in parliament and <\/span><span class=\"c9\">more than 200 in local council<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\"><span class=\"c8\"><strong>1979<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c8\">R<\/span><span class=\"c8\">evolution about women's rights and the compulsory hijab.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<strong>1980<\/strong>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c13\">Hijab was mandated and was brought to assent by the Islamic republic.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c4\">Other rights that women had were also stripped away.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\"><strong><span class=\"c7\">1990<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c12\">\"Pink Revolution\" where women wore colorful hijabs\/veils in protest of the \"traditional\" colour of black<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\"><strong><span class=\"c3\">2000<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c21\">Peaceful protests were held in objection to the discriminatory laws against women.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\"><strong><span class=\"c3\">2010<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c23\">The \"My Stealthy Freedom\" movement was started by Masih Alinejad in 2014 where <\/span><span class=\"c23\">Iranian women posted photos of themselves without the hijab or veil.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c6\">Zanan Magazine, a women's magazine, started publishing after being shut down in 2008 by the government for how it portrayed women in Iran.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\"><strong><span class=\"c3\">2020<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\" style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><span class=\"c11\">Veils and hijabs are compulsory<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"c1\"
