45 Image size testing
Email from Arianna, Friday May 24th, 2024:
Hi team,
I just noticed that images inserted into a Pressbook I was working on were only opening in a new tab at the size they are displayed at. I wonder if something changed in a recent Pressbooks update?
We always say that, if you insert an image at full size before you reduce it to a more suitable display size, you can open it in a new tab at full size. That was not the case while I was working on section 6.1 Micro-level Interaction in Introduction to Sociology – 3rd Canadian Edition. I first noticed this when I inserted Figure 6.13 at full size, then resized it and realized that it would only open in a new tab at the “Medium” size it was displayed as.
I experimented by inserting a random image near the beginning of the section at full size. This image, I could open in a new tab at full size (because that was the display size). Then I resized the image, and again, I could only open it in a new tab at the size at which it was displayed in the section.
I encourage you to experiment and see if this is true for all books. If it is, then we may have to alter our recommendations for image insertion and display.
