Think<\/p>\r\n\r\n<\/header>\r\n<div class=\"textbox__content\">\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/best-films-depicting-mental-illness\/\">21 Amazing Movies that Actually Understand Mental Illness<\/a> lists a number of movies in which a central character suffers from a psychological disorder.\u00a0 Having studied this chapter and explored some of the disorders in more depth, watch some of the movies and see how accurately you think they capture the disorder.\u00a0 \u00a0 (https:\/\/screenrant.com\/best-films-depicting-mental-illness\/)\r\na) what symptoms did the character show\/talk about?\r\nb) who diagnosed the disorder?\r\nc) would you have reached the same diagnosis based on the information in your text?\r\nd) were there symptoms which seemed to contradict the diagnosis?<\/li>\r\n \t<li>You could run a small experiment to investigate the stigma surrounding psychological disorders by looking at how people react to a description of an individual who has or does not have a psychological disorder.\u00a0 The basic procedure would be:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><strong>Step 1<\/strong> \u2013 write a couple of paragraphs describing a job applicant (name, age, qualifications, interests etc) but produce two versions.\u00a0 In one, state that the person suffers from a specific disorder (e.g. depression), in the other simply omit that statement.\u00a0 This is your IV (which application people read) with two conditions (with\/without mention of a psychological disorder)<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Step 2<\/strong> \u2013 design some questions to find out how people feel about the job applicant.\u00a0 You could use a scale (from 1 \u2013 5 how likely is it that you would hire the person), ask them to list the applicant\u2019s strengths and weaknesses etc.\u00a0 People\u2019s responses are your DV.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Step 3<\/strong> \u2013 ask each friend\/participant to read ONE of the versions and answer the questions to see if responses to the two versions differ.\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Remember \u2013 it is important that you randomly assign your friends to the two conditions<\/span>.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Step 4<\/strong> \u2013 are there any differences between the two conditions?<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Step 5<\/strong> \u2013 if you had the time and resources, how would you change\/improve this study?<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>People with no background in psychology often have misconceptions about schizophrenia.\u00a0 Put together a short quiz to assess people\u2019s knowledge of the disorder, then try it out on some friends and family members.\u00a0 How did they do?\u00a0 Was there any pattern in the data?\u00a0 For example, were older people more knowledgeable or perhaps people with more exposure to healthcare?\u00a0 What can we do to increase people\u2019s understanding?<\/li>\r\n \t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/youth.anxietycanada.com\/anxiety-problem-me-take-quiz\">Anxiety Canada: Youth<\/a> focuses on anxiety. Think<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"textbox__content\">\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/best-films-depicting-mental-illness\/\">21 Amazing Movies that Actually Understand Mental Illness<\/a> lists a number of movies in which a central character suffers from a psychological disorder.\u00a0 Having studied this chapter and explored some of the disorders in more depth, watch some of the movies and see how accurately you think they capture the disorder.\u00a0 \u00a0 (https:\/\/screenrant.com\/best-films-depicting-mental-illness\/)<br \/>\na) what symptoms did the character show\/talk about?<br \/>\nb) who diagnosed the disorder?<br \/>\nc) would you have reached the same diagnosis based on the information in your text?<br \/>\nd) were there symptoms which seemed to contradict the diagnosis?<\/li>\n<li>You could run a small experiment to investigate the stigma surrounding psychological disorders by looking at how people react to a description of an individual who has or does not have a psychological disorder.\u00a0 The basic procedure would be:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Step 1<\/strong> \u2013 write a couple of paragraphs describing a job applicant (name, age, qualifications, interests etc) but produce two versions.\u00a0 In one, state that the person suffers from a specific disorder (e.g. depression), in the other simply omit that statement.\u00a0 This is your IV (which application people read) with two conditions (with\/without mention of a psychological disorder)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Step 2<\/strong> \u2013 design some questions to find out how people feel about the job applicant.\u00a0 You could use a scale (from 1 \u2013 5 how likely is it that you would hire the person), ask them to list the applicant\u2019s strengths and weaknesses etc.\u00a0 People\u2019s responses are your DV.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Step 3<\/strong> \u2013 ask each friend\/participant to read ONE of the versions and answer the questions to see if responses to the two versions differ.<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Remember \u2013 it is important that you randomly assign your friends to the two conditions<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Step 4<\/strong> \u2013 are there any differences between the two conditions?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Step 5<\/strong> \u2013 if you had the time and resources, how would you change\/improve this study?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>People with no background in psychology often have misconceptions about schizophrenia.\u00a0 Put together a short quiz to assess people\u2019s knowledge of the disorder, then try it out on some friends and family members.\u00a0 How did they do?\u00a0 Was there any pattern in the data?\u00a0 For example, were older people more knowledgeable or perhaps people with more exposure to healthcare?\u00a0 What can we do to increase people\u2019s understanding?<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/youth.anxietycanada.com\/anxiety-problem-me-take-quiz\">Anxiety Canada: Youth<\/a> focuses on anxiety.
