“My hope is that families will share the stories together. I think that young people need to have some reassurance and information about the symptoms of dementia. Reading together will give them security and the chance to have questions answered. Books could be displayed at seniors’ places, public libraries and schools.”
“The storybooks will have important impacts in environments where fear, confusion, and lack of information block understanding of dementia – for example in long-term care residences for access by health practitioners, Resident and Family Councils, Health authorities, college and university healthcare programs, family/parenting groups and daycare services for appropriate aged children.”
“I’m hoping that the stories will have broad appeal, but especially to stimulate intergenerational interaction. I also think that it could have potential to be brought into advance care planning conversations and stimulate some different kind of reflection…that is, rather than developing a plan for only medical care at the end of life, the plan also includes some sort of social/emotional/spiritual care. At the moment, these pieces are identified as ‘what I value’ but they are not necessarily given the weight that medical care does.”
