If you are feeling anxious, practice your breathing exercise.\n\nRemember: Breathe in slowly to the count of four, hold it for the count of four.\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h1>Reading and Writing Numerals<\/h1>\nYou know that the <strong>digits <\/strong>are 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and that digits are arranged in different places so we can count larger amounts than our ten fingers!\n\nWhen we use <strong>digits, <\/strong>we call what we write the <strong>numeral.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n \t<li>328 is a numeral<\/li>\n \t<li>46 is a numeral<\/li>\n \t<li>3 is a numeral<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nWe use numerals to represent <strong>numbers<\/strong>.\n\nIf we think about language instead of mathematics it will be clearer.\n\n<strong>Letters <\/strong>are used to make <strong>words. <\/strong>We respond to the <strong>meaning <\/strong>of words.\n<ul>\n \t<li>Digits are the \u201cletters\u201d of math.<\/li>\n \t<li>Numerals are the \u201cwords\u201d of math.<\/li>\n \t<li>Numbers are the \u201cmeaning\u201d of math.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nNow you know the place value of digits up to three places. Next you will learn to read and write numerals and number words. Some of the words to read and spell may be new to you.\n\nThe numerals from 1 to 12 have special words.
