Promotion

The promotion stage requires collaboration with a number of different units’ communications teams to ensure the greatest reach of the OER nomination message. This will require the development of promotional packages, including social media assets and web page write-ups.

Websites

The OER Champions nomination and event highlights are hosted on the OER Champions website and shared across Open UBC, UBC Library, CTLT (Vancouver), and the student organizer sites (e.g. AMS). Cross-posting of the nomination letters and forms provide a greater opportunity to get the message out about the event and increase the nominations and champions list. While the primary focus on sharing the message is through the sites mentioned above, UBC Communications & Marketing offers a number of other opportunities for internal sharing that reach a variety of audiences.  An overview of these internal marketing channels and the audiences they serve can be found on the UBC Communications and Marketing website.

The UBC OER Champions website hosts the call for nominations, criteria, and a full listing of all present and past OER Champions. This site is the central location for OER Champions promotion and communications.

In addition to the central communications channels,  departmental channels may be a place to share the information of the OER Champions Nominations to their students, staff, and faculty.  There is no centralized list for departmental communications; however, the student organizations and committees often represent faculties and many departments at UBC. Using the councils and committees to spread the word of the nomination and event to their departments is another way to increase engagement. For example, UBC Vancouver AMS Councils and Committees website provides a listing of councils and committees within the student government.

Social Media

The social media assets are created for platforms that are most commonly used at UBC by students organizations and communication departments. This includes, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter (X). Typically the student members of the planning committee (e.g. AMS) takes the lead on the development of the social media assets and shares the assets with partners. The assets include images and accompanying posts developed within the specifications of each site. Additionally, many of the social media calls to nominate have accompanied other open education campaigns, like the #textbrokecampaign.

To leverage the OER Champions messaging to other social media accounts at UBC, make sure to send the social media assets using hashtags, notifications, and the use of the “@” symbol and social media groups handle to spread the OER Champions message to related UBC accounts, including:

The social media asset design is left up to the student organizers’ communications team; however, there are a variety of tools that can be used to easily develop these objects within the image specifications for each tool.

Additionally, UBC Brand contains a number of tips and guidelines in developing quality social media assets within the specifications of the UBC brand.
