Videos

Some things to take into account while choosing the videos you wish to show to your students include:

Consider the length and number of videos you are providing the students. Studies show engagement peaks at the 6-minute mark of a video (Novak & Tucker, p. 99). Despite this, a lecture video of 15 – 20 minutes could be appropriate for a 3 credit course. If you need to lecture for longer than 20 minutes consider breaking your video into smaller more manageable videos that students can watch seperately. Remember that the total time spent to watch your videos each week should not add up to more than the course delivery hours (3 hrs/week for a 3 credit course).

Consider the number of videos you are providing students, could some of them be audio only? Could you consider a summary handout as opposed to a video?

If you are using outsourced videos such as those on YouTube or a reputable news site consider whether it is possible to record these videos yourself and make them more personalized to your classroom content.
