But the losses are just as real: measured in wasted time, work, money, and ultimately, business.\r\n\r\nThe following \u201ccase study\u201d shows how a poor online presence can have real world costs and consequences. For example, consider Google+, which launched in 2011, following Facebook's prolific adoption. A lack of engagement was at the heart of the decision. People did not tend to spend more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2018\/10\/8\/17951890\/google-plus-shut-down-security-api-change-gmail-android\">5 seconds at a time on the social media app<\/a>. While Google+ tried new layouts, it never really met the needs of its users, 73.3% of which identified as male[footnote]Kasteler, J. (2016, May 30).
