Student Bottom Line Lexicomp is a very diverse resource with many different indexes and clinical tools avaliable making it a student favourite. It is important to keep in mind this is an American resource so ensure to cross reference dosing with a Canadian resource.

What is it used for? Determine safety of medications in both pregnancy and lactation
Type of Resource? Online database (book avaliable)
What is included? Provides level of evidence behind use of medications in pregnancy and lactation. Details regarding the studies are available if clinical judgement must be made.
Student Bottom Line In all patients who are pregnant or lactating, we recommend using this resource to determine if medications will be safe for the baby.

Lexi-Drugs

What is it used for? Online drug reference.
Type of Resource? Online database
What is included?

What is it used for? International drug reference
Type of Resource? Online database (paper resource available)
What is included?
  1. Drug nomenclature

  4. Pharmacokinetics
Student Bottom Line A great resource for inquiries regarding available drug therapies. The paper based resource is organized into two volumes; volume A includes information regarding kinetics, interactions etc and volume B has information regarding drug preparations available. The paper based resource is often confusing to use and thus we recommend using the index as much as possible.

Trissel's IV Drug Compatability

What is it used for? Determines compatibility of IV drugs
Type of Resource? Compatibility tool
What is included? This resource provides information regarding the compatibility of certain drugs in solutions and at the Y site. A summary of the studies are also provided.
Student Bottom Line For drug related question regarding IV drug compatibility, this is the preferred resource to use.

Natural Medicines

Student Bottom Line When patients ask questions about different NHP products, this is the recommended resource to determine efficacy/safety behind its use. We also would recommend using this resource to assess if interactions are present between your patient prescription and non prescription items. This resource has a significant amount of information so CTRL-F will be your friend.
