Registration: Planning Your Courses and Dealing With the Waitlist
Planning your Courses: Students should first know their major and whether they are going for a certificate, diploma, or Bachelor of Business Administration in order to plan out their courses. Students should head to https://www.kpu.ca/current-students/programs , then Programs List A-Z , and then find their program by FACULTY & SUBJECT AREA. From there on, students will be able to see the required courses for their program.
KPU has recently launched a new registration application (Registration, 2019) and students can now log in to https://banweb3.kpu.ca/StudentRegistrationSsb/ssb/registration and click on ‘Plan Ahead’ to begin their new plan for future semesters. Here students will be able to build their plan by selecting courses and viewing their weekly schedules.
Registering: To begin registering for courses, students should first log into KPU OSS (https://oss.kpu.ca/), click on ‘Student Menu’ – ‘Registration’. Here you will be given five options.
Be sure to first select the correct term for your registration.
‘Prepare For Registration’ will show the student’s registration date & time, holds, academic standing, student status, and program information.
‘Browse Classes’ will allow students to first select their registration term, then are able to view selections of the courses available, professors, and how many seats are taken in a specific class for each subject.
‘Register for Classes’ will allow student to enter the CRNs for their desired courses and become either registered or waitlisted for that course depending on the capacity available.
After registering for courses, students will be able to click on ‘My Schedules’ to view their upcoming semester schedule.
Being Waitlisted: Students are sometimes faced with classes being closed or full during registration, leaving students being placed on the waitlist. If a seat is dropped for a course with a waitlist, the student at the top of the waitlist will be offered the seat first (Waitlisting, 2019). If a student is waitlisted, they should be frequently checking their email to see if they have been offered a seat. Once they are offered a seat through their KPU email, they must accept the offer within 24 hours. This can be done by logging into https://oss.kpu.ca/ – ‘Student Menu’ – ‘Registration’ – “Register for Classes’ and then selecting the action for the waitlist course and selecting ‘Register/Registered’.
