According to the survey “How can University’s encourage technological literacy” (Jacob Schantli) Everyone who answered the question “What devices do you own listed below?” 100% of people picked Smartphone and laptop. These two devices are very important because you will need them for many things at KPU. These things include Registering for class, Using the Moodle site, communicating with teachers outside of class, Communicating with Students if you are in a group, checking your email, and doing class projects.

How to use Windows 10

Windows is a very popular operating system. You will find that school computers at KPU use Windows 10. Therefore, it is important to know how to use Windows at a basic level.

What apps to get for you phone and computer

Knowing what apps to get for your smartphone and computer can be a very daunting task. But the major applications you will find yourself needing and finding very useful include

  1. KPU Safe Compatible with Smartphone

This is an essential for a KPU student. The app provides a campus map, notifies you on any important alerts, allows you to get help from either 911 or the campus’s security, and tells you what to do in certain emergency situations.

 

  1. WhatsApp Compatible with Android, iPhone, Windows Phone and Desktop Computer (Windows 10 and Mac OS X 10.9 and higher)

When it comes to communicating to your peers WhatsApp is the way to go. It is compatible with almost every device and you can sync your chats from your phone to your computer. When your professor creates groups for you class this app will allow you to communicate with your peers safely and securely using your mobile data or Wi-Fi.

  1. Quizlet Compatible with Android, iPhone and Desktop Computer

When it comes to studying for a Midterm or Final. Quizlet has you covered. Quizlet is the ultimate study helper for your next big test! It allows you to create flashcards and you can take test and play minigames that help you remember what you need to know. Creating flashcards is very simple and Quizlet will even help you with term definitions that are very useful.

How to get Microsoft Office for free

Step 1: go to you web browser and type the address email.kpu.ca

Step 2: Enter your student ID and password you use to login to your oss.

Step 3: click on the 9 little squares next to where it says “Outlook”.

Step 4: Click on where it says Office 365 and it will direct you to a new tab.

Step 5: Click on “Install Office” and a dropdown menu will appear.

Step 6: Click on “Office 365 apps” and it will start to download.

Step 7: Click on the downloaded

Step 8: Please wait until the setup has finished installing.

 

 

Step 9: Installation is now complete. You can now click on “Close”.

Step 10: Press the Windows Key and open any of the Microsoft Office programs. Microsoft Word is used in this example.

Step 11: Click on “Accept and start Word”

Step 12: Click on “Sign in to get the most out of Office” and sign in using your KPU email and password.

Step 13: You are now ready to use Microsoft Office!
