If you downloaded the MP3s at work, for example, you could lose your job.\r\n<h2>What\u00a0Is Ethics?<\/h2>\r\nEthics are moral principles\u2014it is a system that defines right and wrong and provides a guiding philosophy for every decision you make. \u00a0Ethics are derived from the Greek word \u201cethos\u201d which means a way of living (What is ethics, 2015).\u00a0 \u00a0The Ethics Centre (2020) describes ethics as the \u201cbest option is the one which best achieves what is good, right and consistent with the nature of the things in question. \u201c (para 4).\u00a0 The best option takes into account Values, Principles and Purpose.\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><em>Values tell us what\u2019s good<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 they\u2019re the things we strive for, desire and seek to protect.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><em>Principles tell us what\u2019s right<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 outlining how we may or may not achieve our values.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><em>Purpose is your reason for being<\/em>\u2013 it\u00a0gives life to your values and principles.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThere is no readymade way to deal with ethical dilemmas but your values, principles, and purpose can guide\u00a0 you to do the right thing by asking yourself if the decision is consistent with your values and principles, how the decision might impact the organization,\u00a0 what would happen if everybody did this and would it be okay if this decision made the headlines in the news?
