{"id":1777,"date":"2023-08-18T11:35:17","date_gmt":"2023-08-18T15:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pressbooks.bccampus.ca\/unbc\/?post_type=chapter&#038;p=1777"},"modified":"2025-05-02T12:31:55","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T16:31:55","slug":"adding-and-managing-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"chapter","link":"https:\/\/pressbooks.bccampus.ca\/unbc\/chapter\/adding-and-managing-restrictions\/","title":{"raw":"Adding and Managing Restrictions","rendered":"Adding and Managing Restrictions"},"content":{"raw":"Moodle offers the option to <strong>Add and Manage Restrictions <\/strong>for items and Tools that are added to the Course Shell.\r\n\r\nRestrictions can be added on:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Assignments<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Discussion Forums<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Files<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Folders<\/li>\r\n \t<li>just about any Moodle Activity<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<div class=\"textbox shaded\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you are planning on adding a restriction to restrict access to a certain Group of students, the Groups must be created first in the Participants tab of the course.\u00a0 Please contact your Instructional Designer if you know who they are, or contact ctlt@unbc.ca for assistance with setting up the Groups.<\/div>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nFirst you need to add the Tool or item to your course. Once you have done this, you can <strong>Add and Manage Restrictions<\/strong> by following these steps after you make sure Edit Mode is turned on in the top right hand side of your Course Screen.\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>\r\n<h5>Click the three buttons to the right of the Item or Tool:<\/h5>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<img class=\"alignnone wp-image-1831 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.bccampus.ca\/unbc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/799\/2023\/08\/MicrosoftTeams-image-23.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"882\" height=\"298\" \/>\r\n<h5>2.
