Using Groups in Moodle<\/strong><\/h5>\r\nThere are two ways in which you can organize students into Groups<\/strong> in Moodle:\r\n
    \r\n \t
  1. On a course level<\/strong> - in which students are organized into groups and can set as the default mode for all activities (e.g. Discussion Forums<\/strong>) defined within that course.<\/li>\r\n \t
  2. Activity level<\/strong> - Each Activity (e.g. Assignment<\/strong>, Discussion Forums<\/strong>, etc.) that supports groups can also have its own group mode defined.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nGroup Modes<\/strong>\r\n\r\nAs the instructor, you will have 3 choices on how to set and use the Group<\/strong> mode:\r\n
      \r\n \t
    1. No groups<\/strong> - There are no sub groups, everyone is part of one big community<\/li>\r\n \t
    2. Separate groups<\/strong> - Each group can only see their own group, others are invisible.<\/li>\r\n \t
    3. Visible groups<\/strong> - Each group works in their own group, but can also see other groups. (The other groups' work is read-only.)<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nEnabling either Separate Groups<\/strong> or Visible Group<\/strong> on an Assignment<\/strong> drop-box enables instructors to filter the student submissions to see only those from a particular group. With Visible Groups<\/strong>, students can see which other groups are doing the same Activities<\/strong> as they are working on. In Separate Groups <\/strong>students are not able to see which other groups are doing the same activities.\r\n\r\nUsing Groups<\/strong> with Discussion Forums<\/strong> allow instructors or TAs to restrict interaction between students. Separate Groups<\/strong> mean only students in the same group can see and participate in discussions within a particular forum. Visible Groups<\/strong> allow students to see other group's discussions, but only participate in their own group's discussions.\r\n
      Forced Group<\/strong><\/h5>\r\nIf the course setting Force Group Mode<\/strong> is set to \"Yes<\/strong>\" then the option to define the group mode for individual activities is not available.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n
