E-Mail Lists
As a new Faculty member, you will need to add yourself to the UNBC public list serve “Announce”. This e-mail list enables you to receive notifications of UNBC events, Town Hall meetings, workshop dates, research grant notices, ITS scheduled downtime notices, etc.
Faculty can subscribe themselves to announce by using link below. (NOTE: You must be on-campus to access this link, or if off-campus, use the UNBC Global Protect VPN and then click the link. Info on how to install the VPN is here)

E-mailing Students on Class Lists
You can set up your own distribution lists for the classes you are teaching each semester, or you can use the ‘email the class’ feature in FastPortal. This latter option is the most efficient as there is no room for keying errors.

2. E-mail Communication
E-mail is one of the official means of communication between UNBC and its students. All students are assigned a UNBC email address upon course registration. The e-mail address assigned to a student by the university will be the only e-mail address used by UNBC for communication with students for academic and administrative purposes. Students are responsible for checking their UNBC e-mail account regularly so as to remain current with administrative and academic notifications. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that time-critical e-mail is accessed, read, and acted upon in a timely fashion. If a student chooses to forward university e-mail to another e-mail address, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the alternate account is active.
UNBC has distribution lists (listservs) that are directed to certain groups, such as:
UNBC General—-> everyone at UNBC
Announce ————> faculty and staff who subscribe
UNBC-FA ———-> faculty association members
Five Faculties Lists —-> Faculty-specific listservs. (list of the Five Faculties and their academic programs)
Not everyone subscribes to these lists, but there is information sent out to everyone and not being on the list may mean you miss an event, policy updates, media releases, computer upgrades and downtimes, and much more. (It is easier to hit delete when you read the subject line than to make last minute arrangements for something you knew nothing about.)
There are many other listservs that you may be interested in – some are for clubs, others for classes, and some general ones such as “For Sale”. Your Administrative Assistant will show you where these are and how to add them to your favourites.
