In most cases, use of the RDC is\u00a0free\u00a0for researchers affiliated with UNBC!\r\n<h3><strong>Community Scholars Program<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nThe\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.sfu.ca\/about\/overview\/services-you\/community-scholars\">Community\u00a0Scholars\u00a0Program<\/a> strives to foster\u00a0community\u00a0engagement and collaboration between non-profits, libraries, and post-secondary institutions in BC, connecting researchers working in the non-profit and charitable sectors with access to published research, normally locked behind a paywall.\r\n\r\nThis unique program is an example of how academic libraries (SFU, KPU, UBC, UNBC, and VIU) can work collaboratively to build partnerships, while raising awareness about the importance of equitable access to information. Being part of this type of programming allows us to build meaningful relationships and strengthen our ties to the\u00a0community\u00a0organizations that do critical work on the social issues facing our communities. This type of programming helps to disrupt our traditional views of what constitutes research and who researchers are, expanding the scholarly conversation, making it more diverse and inclusive.\r\n\r\nIf you are a researcher currently partnering with non-profits or charities in Northern BC, please contact <a href=\"mailto:mccabek@unbc.ca?subject=Community%20Scholars%20Program\">Kealin McCabe<\/a> to learn more about the program and how to potentially connect your research partners to important resources.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<h3><strong>The Northern BC Archives &amp; Special Collections<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nThe Northern BC Archives &amp; Special Collections (or NBCA) is located on the fourth floor of the Geoffrey R. Weller Library on UNBC\u2019s Prince George campus.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<img class=\" wp-image-38 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.bccampus.ca\/unbcfacultyorientation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1462\/2021\/08\/libraryCollage4-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Northern BC Archives Collage of photos\" width=\"400\" height=\"364\" \/>Officially opened in November 2000, the NBCA is mandated to:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>acquire, preserve and provide access to materials of permanent value related to the institutional <strong>history and development of UNBC<\/strong> and its institutes; and<\/li>\r\n \t<li>to acquire, preserve and provide public access to archival materials of value related to the <strong>history and culture of Northern British Columbia<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThe Archives also houses rare book collections, and maintains the University\u2019s artworks and regalia collections.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nThe NBCA serves research and scholarship by making acquired archival records and special collections materials available to researchers, university personnel, students, educators and the general public through public presentations, digitized content, virtual research guides, education kits, and collaborative community outreach and engagement initiatives. Weller Library on UNBC\u2019s Prince George campus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-38 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.bccampus.ca\/unbcfacultyorientation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1462\/2021\/08\/libraryCollage4-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Northern BC Archives Collage of photos\" width=\"400\" height=\"364\" \/>Officially opened in November 2000, the NBCA is mandated to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>acquire, preserve and provide access to materials of permanent value related to the institutional <strong>history and development of UNBC<\/strong> and its institutes; and<\/li>\n<li>to acquire, preserve and provide public access to archival materials of value related to the <strong>history and culture of Northern British Columbia<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Archives also houses rare book collections, and maintains the University\u2019s artworks and regalia collections.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The NBCA serves research and scholarship by making acquired archival records and special collections materials available to researchers, university personnel, students, educators and the general public through public presentations, digitized content, virtual research guides, education kits, and collaborative community outreach and engagement initiatives.
