Gas Discharge Terms and Definitions

Discharge lighting covers a variety of lighting styles, the most familiar of which is fluorescent lighting, but also includes Low Pressure Sodium (LPS) lamps and the three main HID lamps: Mercury Vapor, Metal Halide and the High Pressure Sodium (HPS). All styles of gas discharge lamps require a ballast to operate.
