A famous quote by the Greek physician, Hippocrates, over two thousand years ago, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” bears much relevance to our food choices and their connection to our health. Today, the scientific community echoes Hippocrates’ statement as it recognizes that what we eat can impact our health. While there isn’t a “one size fits all” food plan that works for everyone, there are some key principles and pieces of information that you can consider when trying to eat food that will be beneficial to your health. We’ll explore some of these principles in this chapter and hopefully provide you with some skills to let food be your medicine.
