66 What is Data Licensing?

Previous Lesson

Lesson 2 of 16

Repositories ask you to assign a license to your data that specifies the conditions under which it can be reused.

Creative Commons licenses are typical, but there are also other types of licenses and data sharing agreements. For example, the Open Data Commons maintains a set of resources and tools and licenses. The following section will introduce Creative Common licenses as an example. They are an option available when you deposit data in Borealis or in the Federated Research Data Repository (FRDR), which are national data repository platforms in Canada (repositories will be discussed further later in the module).
