The research data lifecycle is a circle because well-documented data that is collected for one research project may be usable to be used to answer other research questions.

Data deposit is one way to make your data findable for other researchers.

If someone uses a dataset created by another researcher, they must cite the original researcher or team to credit them.  Further, citation of the original data set in new research publications that also used that data set makes the original easier for others to find. Journals may also ask that researchers acknowledge their data source using a data access statement that explains where data can be accessed from or why it is not available.
