Increasingly, publishers are implementing policies that require that data be deposited in a repository and that the digital object identifier provided by the repository be provided to the publisher.
They may also require authors to make a data availability statement that describes the availability of the data and how it can be accessed. Some publishers also provide a repository for data deposit as an option for researchers whose works are accepted for publication in their journals.
In addition, some journals publish data papers that describe data sets. This type of publication may be an additional research output for a project.
If you have a target publication (or publications), familiarity with their deposit requirements and with common practices in your discipline will help you put together a DMP that incorporates best practices into your project.
