A license stipulates the conditions under which your data, or other content you own the copyright for, is being made available.
Creative Commons describes their licenses as a “standardized way to grant the public permission to use their creative work under copyright law. From the reuser’s perspective, the presence of a Creative Commons license on a copyrighted work answers the question, ‘What can I do with this work?’” (n.d.). Licenses are non-revocable, meaning you cannot make something available under a license and then take away the permissions to use it.
