13 Sections 2-1 to 2-4 Vector addition of 2 dimensional or coplanar forces.

Question 1 – Coplanar or 2-dimensional force vector resultants

(Note – Labelled Problem 2-8) Find the angle θ  for connecting member A to the plate so that the resultant force of FA and FB is directed horizontally to the right.

Hint:  Resolve FA and FB into Cartesian or i j k vectors.

What is the magnitude of the resultant force?

FA = 8 kN

FB = 6 kN

Question 2 – Coplanar or 2-dimensional force vector resultants

Note:  Labelled as Problem 2-20

If  φ= 45.0o, F1 = 5 kN and the resultant force is 6 kN directed along the positive y axis, determine the required magnitude of F2 and its direction angle θ .

Question 3 – Determine the resultant force

Determine the magnitude and direction measured counterclockwise from the positive x axis of the 3 forces.  F1 = 500 N and the angle at shown is 20.0o.
