Note culturelle: le 21 juin, la fête de la musique
La Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is a music celebration that takes place every year on June 21st, the longest day of the year. It’s an initiative by the French Ministry of Culture and is celebrated in over 100 countries around the world, including in Vancouver. The event encourages people of all ages and musical abilities to participate in free public music performances in public places such as plazas, parks or in streets.
The objectives is to promote la musique in all forms and celebrate its impact on culture and society. La fête (the party) encourages both new and experiences musicians to showcase their talents. Often, performances happen spontaneously. And le 21 juin brings people together to connect to the sound of music and a shared sense of cultural appreciation.
