5 Assignment Description: 3-Minute Presentation

3-Minute Presentation

You will give this presentation in the first week, and is 10% of your final grade. This is meant to be a low-stakes assignment, so while you will get feedback to develop your presentation skills, as long as you complete the requirements outlined below, you will get full marks.

Prepare a single, static slide (no animations, videos, or transitions) about your favourite hobby. This doesn’t have to be anything related to the course content. Instead, the idea is to 1) develop your presentation skills by practicing in a low-stakes environment, and 2) get to know each other better.

The Requirements:

    • 1 slide, static, with no animations, videos, transitions, or other moving content
    • You must create the slide on your own
    • You will have 3 minutes to present your slide – we will be timing each presentation, and stopping you after 3 minutes
    • Choose a hobby or topic your are interested in – this does not have to be ocean/marine science related
    • Try to teach us 1 thing about your topic – you don’t have time to get into more than that

Tips

  • Speak slowly and clearly, don’t try to rush through a lot of information
  • On the slide, use large font that is easy to read (no cursive fonts)
  • Use one or two large, clear images or graphics

Assessment and Grading
