4 How to be an Ocean Leader: Week 1

Skill development

Remember, this course will focus on the following skills:

  • Communication
    • Including dissemination information to different audiences, written versus oral communication, presentation skills, knowledge translation, and more
  • Collaboration
    • Including interdisciplinary teamwork, facilitating collaboration and groups, and conflict management
  • Leadership
    • Including awareness, responsibility, respectful and constructive feedback, inclusion, and taking action

This week we will start to focus on developing skills in collaboration and communication. In Course 1: Grand Challenges Facing the Ocean, you picked a group and research topic for three of the assignments you will be submitting. For our time dedicated to this course, you will be working together to build a foundation on which that research can take place. In class this week, expect to be working on in-class activities that work towards our skill development goals.
