Health Information Technology Foundations offers an overview of healthcare, health information technology, and health information management systems. The focus is on the role and responsibilities of entry-level health IT specialists in each phase of the health information management systems lifecycle.

Medical Record Systems

Designed for medical education programs that seek a Canadian system that is focused on the student experience. EdEHR is suitable for all health care programs including, but not limited to, nursing, medicine, pharmacy, physiotherapy and more. EdEHR can be connected with many learning management systems including Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, and other LTI compliant learning systems.

OpenEMR (GNU GPL)

An open source electronic health records and medical practice management software with over 30 supported languages includes scheduling, e-prescribing, and medical billing.

The global OpenMRS community works together to build the world’s leading open source enterprise electronic medical record system platform.

SEHRA – Sunshine Electronic Health Record Academic Simulation (CC BY)

An educational simulation of an electronic health records system using Access 2019 as the development platform. Piloted in December of 2019, SEHRA was successfully implemented in January of 2020. SEHRA continues to grow and is currently used in on-campus laboratories, remote courses, and for professional practice experience.

WorldVistA (GNU GPL)

This system was originally developed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for use in its veterans hospitals, outpatient clinics, and nursing homes. WorldVistA has a number of development efforts aimed at adding new software modules such as pediatrics, obstetrics, and other functions not used in the veterans’ healthcare setting.

Tools

SuperTracker (CC0)

The source code and foods database for SuperTracker, which was an online tool offered by USDA (2011-2018) that helped users track diet, physical activity and weight. SuperTracker provided a personalized plan based on the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans for what they should eat and drink and guided users to making better choices.
