COPD Assessment Test (CAT)
Purpose Determine impact of COPD on one’s daily life.
Type of Resource Scoring tool
Included Tool consists of a variety of factors which may impact one’s daily life.
Student Bottom Line When patients are initially diagnosed with COPD, use the CAT score to determine the impact the condition is having on one’s life. The score can then be used to determine initial drug therapy (also recommend calculating mMRC).

Modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) Dyspnea Scale
Purpose Determine patients’ baseline dyspnea from daily activities.

  1. Grade 0: dyspnea with exercise
  2. Grade 1: dyspnea walking up hill
  3. Grade 2: walk slower than others
  4. Grade 3: stops every 100m
  5. Grade 4: dyspnea with simple movement
