Module 13: Forest Landscape Planning
Topic 13.4: Land-Use Capability
In the designation of silvicultural options for different portions of a landscape, a main consideration is of the suitability of a parcel of land for that use without requiring undue effort and without unacceptable damage. For example, steep areas with erodible soils are not suitable for land management practices that involve the ground movement of heavy equipment or exposure of the soil surface such as with some approaches to enrichment planting. Similarly, deep water swamps are typically incapable of supporting intensive forest uses.
