Help students understand what academic and professional integrity looks like in your discipline

Jessica Kalra

The policy documents give general examples of academic misconduct, but it is also important for our students to understand what academic integrity looks like in your discipline. We can help our students meaningfully reflect on this topic by asking them several guiding questions:

  1. What are the forms of academic misconduct that happen in [insert discipline]?
  2. What are some reasons students in [insert discipline] might contravene academic integrity standards? What are some ways to overcome these issues?
  3. Why is it important to have strong academic integrity in [insert discipline]?
  4. What would happen if someone working in the field of [insert discipline] were to fail to meet professional standards?
