Territorial Acknowledgment

Invite participants to do their own territorial acknowledgment

Description of Today’s Session

Ice breaker activity

  • E.g. Snowball fight – write three statements about yourself on a piece of paper, crumple it up, and throw it at someone in the room. Continue to toss the ‘snowballs’ until sufficiently randomized. Pick one, standing in a circle, take turns reading them and as a group guess who the statements apply to.
  • Ask participants to share reasons for including ice breaker activities; ask participants for examples that can be used – for online/ in-person/both.

Principles

  • Review and discuss blended-learning principles as described on course site.
    • Think Pair Share:
      • What principle stand out to you as most important to consider when planning a lesson in a blended learning mode? Why? (Participants were asked to consider this prior to session.)
      • Are there other principles that are important to be considering? (Participants were asked to consider this prior to session.)

Challenges and Benefits

  • Liberating Structure, building on online activity/discussion. E.g. 1-2-3-4 All

BOPPPS

  • Introduce and review BOPPPS (PPT).
  • Provide example from week using Challenges and Benefits lesson.

Giving and Receiving Feedback

  • Purpose:
    • Am I reaching my goals?
    • Does my behaviour match my intention?
    • What do others see?
  • Crowd source: Have you been in a position to offer feedback in the past? What has worked well?
    • Specific and Descriptive
    • Changeable
    • Valuable to the person
    • Owned (‘I’ statements): What does it do for me as a learner?
    • Timely
  • Receiving Feedback
    • Ask for clarification when needed – paraphrase and ask questions.
    • Say thank you

Describe week 2 activities.

  • Deadlines for posting, responding to lessons.
  • Posting your lesson, with links and resources as needed, in the discussion board.
  • Provide feedback only for lessons you have participated in fully.
