Some of the following resources may give you ideas about how you can design engaging activities in a blended-learning mode.

  • This chapter from Lumen Learning called Blended Learning Design, gives you some great ideas on what works well in the online environment and in the in-person environment and suggests things to consider when designing your lesson.
  • An Introduction Hybrid Teaching from College of DuPage offers suggestions on structuring classes and activities, questions to consider when planning, a step-by-step guide, and tips for success in a blended-learning mode.
  • The Blended Learning Toolkit offers several examples of blended courses as well as steps for building a course.
  • In Guiding Principles of Effective Blended and Online Course Design, Wright, Dyjur, Norman, & Kelly describe principles related to blended and online course design and couple each with specific examples of the principle in action.
  • Here are two sites focus on Liberating Structures- innovative, easy to learn methods that foster lively, inclusive participation, build trust and co-creative experiences. Liberatingstructures.com describes the model and many examples of Liberating Structures that have, traditionally, been used in in-person environments. There is also a  worldwide community of facilitators are exploring and using Liberating Structures in online/virtual spaces as well. Virtual LS Community Handbook site is an editable Google Doc where a folks are collecting resources that you can browse.
