Creating Front and Back Matter
Front matter comprises the first section of a book, and is usually the smallest section in terms of the number of pages.
Typical front matter sections in open textbooks are:
- Abstract
- Acknowledgements
- Disclaimer
- Foreword
- Introduction
- List of Abbreviations
- Licensing Info
The most common types of back matter for open textbooks are:
- Appendices
- Bibliography
- Glossary
- Version history
To begin, click on Organize Page in the menu bar to go to your Book Organization Page.
Click on the Add Front Matter or Add Back Matter A form will open called Add Front Matter. You will now see the visual editor with a Visual and Text (HTML) tabs. | |
Give your front or back matter a title, and add some content. | |
Along the right-hand side of the visual editor, there are some options. Choose what type of front or back matter it is. | |
Click on the Create button. |
