How to Participate in Discussion Forums
Your Instructors may use Moodle to engage in discussions. These discussions will take place in Discussion Forums which may be in all in one section or separated throughout the course shell, so familiarize yourself with the Course layout . There are 4 different types of Forums that might be potentially used in your courses:
1. Standard forum for general use- students will see an introduction text in a separate space above the list of discussions. Students see a button to start a new discussion (thread).
2. Single simple discussion- Instructors posts a question and students are able only to reply (Note: students cannot start a new topic of discussion).
3. Question and Answer- a question is posted and students respond with possible answers. Important to note: Q and A forum requires students to post once before viewing other students’ postings.
4. Standard forum displayed in a blog-like format- standard forum for general use, but the first post of each discussion is displayed (as in a blog) so that students can read it and then choose to respond by clicking the “Discuss this topic” button bottom right of the post.
